We run the day-to-day administration of your retirement plan — eligibility tracking, participant notices, distributions, loans, contribution processing and the Form 5500 — as your named 3(16) plan administrator.

Plan administration is the operational work that keeps a retirement plan compliant with its own document and with ERISA. By default, it is the employer’s job. When Admin316 administers your plan, this work moves to us.
The common setup is a recordkeeper holding the assets, an advisor on the investments, and everything operational landing on one person in HR or finance who already has a full-time job. That person is not named in the plan document — but the liability still sits with the employer.
As a named 3(16) plan administrator we are written into the plan document and we sign the filings.
Eligibility calls, distribution approvals, notice timing and the accuracy of the Form 5500.
Fewer plan errors, fewer late filings, and a named administrator who knows your plan.
Changing third party administrators does not require moving plan assets or changing recordkeepers, and it does not require firing your advisor. Most sponsors who switch to us keep both.
1. Send the plan name and EIN. We read your plan’s public filings and come back with a written read on where administration stands today. 2. Document review. We compare the plan document to how the plan is actually being operated and list the gaps in plain English. 3. Service agreement and appointment. We are appointed as 3(16) plan administrator and, where you want the fiduciary role moved as well, as 402(a) named fiduciary. 4. Transition. We take the census, payroll feed and prior filings from your current provider and pick up the compliance calendar from that point forward.
There is no charge for the initial review and no obligation to move anything.
Small business 401(k) administration is where errors cluster, because a 25-person employer carries the same ERISA obligations as a 2,500-person employer with none of the internal benefits staff. The notice calendar is identical. The testing is identical. The Form 5500 signature exposure is identical.
Admin316 was built for small and mid-size employers who want the plan run correctly without hiring a benefits department. You get a named administrator who knows your plan, answers the phone, and takes the administrative work — and the liability that comes with it.
A 401(k) plan administrator manages the day-to-day administration of a retirement plan, including eligibility, participant notices, contributions, distributions, loans, compliance requirements, plan document updates, and Form 5500 filing support.
A recordkeeper tracks participant accounts. That means contributions, investment elections, balances, statements and the participant website. A 401(k) plan administrator runs the plan’s day-to-day operation and compliance. That covers eligibility and enrollment, checking payroll deposits, reviewing loans and distributions, coordinating nondiscrimination testing, preparing Form 5500 and sending required participant notices. Most plans need both. Admin316 works alongside your existing recordkeeper, so you don’t have to switch platforms.
Yes. An ERISA 3(16) plan administrator can be formally appointed in writing and accept fiduciary responsibility for the plan’s administrative duties. Those include signing and filing Form 5500, approving distributions and loans, and delivering required notices. This moves much of that work and liability away from the employer. The employer is still responsible for prudently selecting and monitoring the administrator. Admin316 serves as the 3(16) fiduciary for the plans it administers.
We sell no investment products, take no commissions and no revenue sharing. We work alongside your existing recordkeeper and advisor rather than requiring a platform change.
Send your plan name and EIN. We will read the public filings and send back a written review naming the specific exposure we see — late deposits, missed notices, eligibility errors, unbenchmarked fees — with no sales deck attached.
